Storm and roof leaks
Storm and roof leak damage in Missouri City
After a storm, water that gets in through the roof soaks insulation and ceilings before anyone sees it from the yard. The stain shows up later.
Say the street address first. Calling soon after a loss helps.

Inside the house first
- Place a bucket under active drips and keep people out from under a ceiling that is bulging.
- Move furniture and electronics away from the wet area.
- Photograph the ceiling and the walls before anything is moved.
- Turn off lights on any circuit under a wet ceiling.
A bulging ceiling is holding water, and it can drop without warning. Stay clear of it and tell the contractor how large the bulge is.
The roof is a separate trade
Restoration contractors dry and repair what the water reached. A roofer fixes or replaces the roof itself.
Texas Department of Insurance advises covering holes to keep rain out, and keeping a record of repairs and receipts. It says to avoid permanent repairs until the adjuster has seen the damage.
Its guidance is on the storm recovery tips page.
When the stain appears days later
Insulation holds water like a sponge. A ceiling may look fine for a day or two, then show a brown ring.
Tell the contractor when the storm happened, not only when you noticed the stain. The date helps explain how far the water traveled.
Water is still moving. Call about it now.
Describe what happened, give the street address, and the call is routed to an independent restoration contractor.
