Mold
Mold after water damage in Missouri City
Mold follows moisture that stays. If a wall, ceiling or floor was wet and not dried, the next problem is growth inside it.
Say the street address first. Calling soon after a loss helps.

Texas regulates mold work
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation licenses mold assessment and mold remediation. Assessment means inspecting or surveying a structure. Remediation means removing, cleaning, sanitizing or otherwise treating mold. See TDLR's mold page.
TDLR says a company can hold both licenses but generally cannot do both on one project. That keeps the person who finds the problem separate from the person paid to fix it.
The 25 square foot line
TDLR's notification page says a Mold Remediation Notification is required when contamination affects 25 contiguous square feet or more and remediation will be done. That system is for licensed contractors and companies.
TDLR's FAQ says visible mold under 25 contiguous square feet can be cleaned by people who are not licensed, but a licensed contractor still follows the rules on small jobs. Read the FAQ for the exact wording.
Prevent it by drying
Mold needs moisture more than anything else. Drying a wet area promptly is the main step, and a moisture meter confirms it worked.
A drying job that ends with documented readings is a better sign than a house that only feels dry.
Insurance
Texas Department of Insurance says mold removal is excluded from home policies except when it is needed to repair damage from a covered risk.
That means the cause of the water often decides whether mold work is covered. Ask your insurer before work starts.
How to check a mold firm
Ask for the TDLR license number and look it up on TDLR's license search.
Ask whether the company is doing the assessment or the remediation, and who is doing the other part. This site connects callers to independent contractors and does not itself assess or treat mold.
Water is still moving. Call about it now.
Describe what happened, give the street address, and the call is routed to an independent restoration contractor.
